Study of Interacting Heisenberg Antiferromagnet Spin-1/2 and 1 Chains

Haldane conjectures the fundamental difference in energy spectrum of Heisenberg antiferromagnetic (HAF) spin S chain is that half-integer and integer have gapless gapped spectrums, respectively. The ground state (gs) HAF spin-1/2 spin-1 chains a quasi-long-range short-range correlation, We study effect exchange interaction between an forming normal ladder system its gs properties. inter-chain J⊥ can be either ferromagnetic (FM) or (AFM). Using density matrix renormalization group method, we show weak AFM/FM coupling limit J⊥, behaves like two decoupled chains. However, large AFM limit, whole visualized as weakly coupled pairs which behave effective chain. In FM form pseudo spin-3/2 also derive model Hamiltonian both strong rung limits.
